I love Coney Island because it is so raw, odd and because of the fact that you never know what you will see when you go there - today was no exception.
At Coney Island today, I was very lucky to be able to witness/experience the Mermaid Parade. The Mermaid Parade is the nation's largest art parade and one of New York City's greatest summer events, by far! According to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade website, "this parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954, and draws from a host of other sources resulting in a wonderful and wacky event that is unique to Coney Island."
I could go on and on telling you about how amazing this parade was and tell you about all the crazy costumes (and people) that I saw but I think photos tell the story best.
So, here is a preview! (To see all the photos place check out the Zombie Popcorn Photo Gallery.)
