The government is covering up the biggest zombie outbreak in history!

One site is working to uncover this ‘eminent zombie apocalypse’ and that site is, Lost Zombies.

The goal of Lost Zombies “is to gather definitive proof that zombies are real and to compile that proof into a feature length documentary film. We are asking the general public to assist us by submitting any proof of zombies they may have. We believe as a community we can educate the world’s population of the reality of zombies and the potential, if not, eminent zombie apocalypse.”

Now at first, I thought this was a joke, don’t get me wrong, I love zombies, but zombie films (3D preferred) not real life walking dead. It seems that the folks over at Lost Zombies have really found out that an outbreak has happened and they have videos and photos that have been submitted by people from all over the world to prove it!

They even have images “that were pulled from a hard drive sent to Lost Zombies by an anonymous contact who goes by J. We believe J was a tester at the pharmaceutical company where the Zombie outbreak originated.” - According to the Lost Zombie website.

This is unreal, so for the safety of the human race, please if you have any photos, videos, documents that help uncover this zombie outbreak - send them to Lost Zombies, ASAP! (and have your footage in the first ever community driven zombie documentary.)

I know I always have my video camera with me and if I see anything, I will let Lost Zombies know.

The Horse Drawn Carriage Conflict in NYC

The subject of banning the horse drawn carriages in NYC has been talked about a lot in some of my comment pages so I thought I would make it an official blog post. This will open the topic to everyone. In addition to opening this topic, I will also give some details on why it is important to get these horses off the streets of NYC.

There are many different reasons why a ban on horse drawn carriages is important. I wont go into every little detail here but I will list some of the important issues on why these horses do not belong in the streets of NY. (If you want more information about this issue feel free to ask me in the comment page on this post or just Google it - there is a ton of information out there from both sides.)

As you may already know, the ASPCA, along with the Humane Society of the United States, PETA, and local advocacy groups, argue that ‘reform’ legislation is not enough. The health hazards posed to horses by traffic, noise, exhaust, and hard concrete, as well as the industry’s proven unwillingness or inability to provide horses with decent living and working conditions, show that there can be no humane alternative to a complete ban on horse-drawn carriages in New York City.

According to a NYC comptroller’s audit of the horse drawn carriage industry found a long list of problems in the carriage industry, from lax veterinary care to infrequent inspections. The audit also found that the horses were not provided with enough water, were at risk of overheating on hot asphalt and were forced to stand in their own waste because of inadequate drainage. Vets even say that ‘Lameness and hoof deterioration are inevitable when a horse spends its life walking or jogging on the unnaturally concussive asphalt of city streets’

The horse drawn carriages also pose a threat to human safety. I have posted at the bottom of this post a short list of incidents involving horses used in carriage operations in New York City since 1999.

What can you do to help the horses in NYC?

If you live in one of the five boroughs of NYC, please ask your Council Member to sign on to Tony Avella’s bill AND contact Council Speaker Christine Quinn who is blocking this bill at City Hall.

Check to see if your Council Member has already signed on to the bill
If you live outside of NYC, please contact Mayor Michael Bloomberg to let him know what you think of this industry.

Also, If you are in the NYC area and would like to help; please let me know because I will be here in the city working on this issue. (If you do not know how to contact me, please just leave a comment below.)

September 14, 2007: A horse who was spooked by a street performer’s drum ran nearly a block along the sidewalk before slamming into a tree and dying. The horse’s panic caused a second horse—who was still attached to a carriage—to dart into traffic and collide with a car. (The horses name was Smoothie)

Revenge of the Zombie Chickens

I have been waiting a long time for this film to come out - In fact, I was given a script before they started shooting this film to give my input on it. Of course, I am talking about the only movie you need to see this year (that is not in 3D), Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead!

Back in 2005, I had the privilege to go on location where Lloyd Kaufman was filming Poultrygeist. Lloyd and his crew gave me the royal treatment, showing me how they made the chicken dead and how they made 100 percent sure that no animal ingredients were used in making this gore fest.

For those who don’t know about Poultrygeist, here is the movie synopsis.

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead is cinema’s first chicken-zombie horror-comedy… with musical numbers!

When well-meaning but somewhat dim Arbie (Jason Yachanin) returns to the spot of his first (and only) romantic encounter with his high school sweetheart- the not-so-romantic Ancient Tromahawk Tribe Indian Burial Ground- he is shocked to discover two horrible realities:

Not only has the graveyard been bulldozed to make room for the newest fast-food “American Chicken Bunker” chain restaurant, but after only one semester at college, his girlfriend Wendy (Kate Graham) has been transformed into a left-wing, lipstick-lesbian liberal, and spends her free time protesting the corporate takeover of America.
Reeling from heartbreak and a brutal beating from Micki (Allyson Sereboff), Wendy’s new activist girlfriend, Arbie channels his spite into applying for a job at the very restaurant they are protesting against.

But something else is feeling wronged by all of the construction and commotion… Something not human…

Meanwhile, newly employed Arbie’s new coworkers are a colorful group: the sassy manager Denny (Joshua Olatunde); the burqa-clad Muslim, Humus (Rose Ghavami); the animal-loving yokel Carl, Jr. (Caleb Emerson); the effete Mexican spitfire Paco Bell (Khalid Rivera); and a mysterious 60-year-old man who has been working in fast-food all his life (Lloyd Kaufman).

Together, they slowly uncover the supernatural secret of the American Chicken Bunker, while the owner General Lee Roy (Robin L. Watkins) tries to keep a lid on everything, lest the scandal taint his growing empire. But once workers and customers start dying in bizarre and grotesque ways, it becomes clear that this isn’t just a mild case of salmonella … but something much more FOWL.

Will Arbie and his friends stop the supernatural before they infect all the artificial food stuffs, the customers or even the world? Will Arbie be able to win Wendy back now that he’s making minimum-wage? What’s Carl Jr. doing with that frozen chicken? And what’s with all the singing and dancing?

It’s Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead!

If you want to see Poultrygeist there are several screenings;

In NYC - Friday May 9th at 7:30pm and 10pm
And in LA - June 13 - go to www.poultrygeistmovie.com for more details

And now for the trailer - Only from Troma, of course!

What were you doing when Shrek 3D came out on DVD?

Ok, this is ‘A Nerd in 3D’ revisited, well, in a strange way.

I own a device that allows me to make videos in 3D. Not the old fashion, but still loved, anaglyph 3D movies (you know the kind where you need the red and blue glasses) but in glorious field sequential 3D. (You know the kind where you need the electronic shutter lens glasses.)

Anyway, I have a huge pile of tapes of just random stuff that I had shot over the years in 3D and I came across this silly video I did back when Shrek 3D came out on DVD. Now, I don’t have a clue if the compression on YouTube will effect the 3D quality at all (don’t worry you can still watch it in 2D -its just not as fun) and since I am on the road I can not test it out with my 3D equipment. Come to think of it, it would be nice to have a 22” 3D Monitor from iZ3D to view this 3D video clip ….hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more, over at MarketSaw.

So, enjoy this

1.8 Days covered in Blood

There is a new 3D movie coming out called 1.8 days, starring Gary Busey and drummer for the band Collective Soul, Will Turpin.

I am not sure what the movie is going to be about but it doesn’t matter with a promotional poster like this one - I am totally sold on this film.

But if you want a plot summary,

Two hustlers, their ex-fiancé, a ruthless crime boss, and a bounty hunter, all intent on killing each other, suddenly find themselves in the middle of an “invasion.” The lifelong enemies must band together to defeat the (what the hell are they!?). They just have to stop fighting each other long enough to survive.

Blinders - The Truth behind the Tradition

I am going to be here in NYC for a while, working on the horse drawn carriage ban. So, I thought I would introduce a film that was just completed not too long ago, (it should be released soon) that talks about the NYC horse drawn carriage industry. The documentary is called ‘Blinders - The Truth Behind the Tradition.’

I had a chance to screen this documentary and it is amazing because it really takes a deep look into this industry and takes viewers behind the scenes to expose the truth behind the tradition.

I recommend ‘Blinders’ to anyone who wants to know about the horse drawn carriage industry here in NYC.

Here is the trailer.

NYC, Ban Horse Drawn Carriages

Yesterday, I arrived back in NYC to join forces with the ASPCA, Humane Society of the United States, The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages, PETA and several other groups and individuals to put a stop to the abusive ‘tradition’ of the horse-drawn carriage industry.

We have seen for years, it is impossible for any agency to monitor the horses in the carriage industry properly and ensure their health and well-being. No amount of regulation can protect the public from the danger of horses who bolt when they become frightened. New York City has the highest horse-drawn carriage accident rate in the country, and horses suffer lung damage from inhaling exhaust fumes.

According to a NYC comptroller’s audit, which found a litany of problems in the carriage industry, from lax veterinary care to infrequent inspections.

On Sat, April 27 we held a meeting for locals who are concerned about these horses. At the meeting, Daniel talked about the history of the horse-drawn carriage industry and what people could do to help raise public awareness.

After the meeting, we all went near the hack lines (hack line is where the horses/carriage stand, with no shade, while the driver attempts to grab people to go for a ride.) with posters and post cards for people to sign to voice their concerns about the abusive industry.

It was a very productive day we talked to hundreds of people and they were very supportive of the ban on horse drawn carriage in NYC.

New York City Council Member Tony Avella introduced groundbreaking legislation that would ban the abusive horse-drawn carriage industry in the city. So the time is now for us all to let the city council members know that this cruel and outdated industry needs to end.

If you are in the NYC area and would like to help; please let me know because I will be here in the city working on this issue. (If you do not know how to contact me, please just leave a comment below.)

Top five most favorite YouTube 3D videos ever!

As you know, I LOVE 3D movies, it does not matter what type of movie it is -just as long as it is 3D.

When I tell people I collect 3D movies and created a home theater just for 3D movies people think I am crazy. Then as we continue to talk -they mention that they have never seen a 3D movie and that is where everything changes.

I invite them over either to watch a 3D movie or take them to the nearest theater, IMAX 3D preferred for the first timer. After the movie, they always ask, “Why isn’t every movie filmed in 3D, that was awesome!!” (I am suddenly no longer the crazy 3D guy.)

When people ask me why isn’t every movie filmed in 3D - I am sadden because I don’t have the answer but then my happiness returns because I remember the HUGE list over at MarketSaw. Jim, the blogger at MarketSaw, keeps his finger on the pulse of the 3D movie industry and has a growing list of all the Upcoming 3D movies. Check out MarketSaw’s Upcoming 3D movie list.

I have always wanted a 3D Youtube style website. Since one does not exist yet. I thought it would be fun to see if anyone is posting 3D videos on YouTube. - Guess what? There are so many and they range from really good to awesome. (You know, awesome like a very bad b-horror movie)

So, I wanted to share with you my Top five most favorite YouTube 3D videos ever! (to fully enjoy these videos you will need 3D glasses - if you need some add a comment below and I will hook you up with some )- and yes, I am sitting in front of my computer wearing 3D glasses.

Let the count down begin!!

NUMBER 5

This video is pretty much all effects, nothing special- I just like how dramatic it is with the music.

NUMBER 4

Ok, this is lame - the user disabled the embedding option for this video -so you will have to visit this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhWip-Hrxe8

The reason this video is in my Top Five is because - when you watch the video, the guy is blowing into a party blow thing (I don’t know what they are called) to create a 3D effect, but he blows into it so much he loses his breath and has a hard time talking. Its great!

NUMBER THREE

NUMBER TWO

ZOMBIE STRIPPERS!

Sony Films is opening today, in selected theaters, a new movie called 'Zombie Strippers' - Starring Robert Englund and Jenna Jameson. You have to like a movie that has Robert England, well because he is the star of one of the all time great horror movies, and Jenna Jameson, well, you know why... because after seeing the film 'Earthlings' she has become a voice for the animals.

Anyway, you know this is going to be good chesse-y, please give me my 80 minutes of my life back, type of movie, with the tag line, "They will dance for a fee but devour you for free."

So here is the Synopsis for the film;

Nightmare on Elm Street's Robert Englund and worldwide media sensation Jenna Jameson star in Zombie Strippers. When a secret government agency lets out a deadly chemo virus causing the reanimation of the dead, the first place to get hit is Rhino's, a hot underground strip club. As one of the strippers get the virus, she turns into a supernatural, flesh-eating zombie stripper, making her the hit of the club. Do the rest of the girls fight the temptation to be like the star stripper, even if there is no turning back? Also Roxy Saint (of the Goth band Roxy Saint and the Blackouts) and Ultimate Fighting Champion Tito Ortiz, Zombie Strippers is a sexy, bloody, hilarious good time!

So here is the official trailer - enjoy!

Letting the days go by

Do not ever let people tell you that you do not have time to do something. I hear people all the time saying, "If I had more time I would do ... (insert something to do here)"

I know- I have found myself saying that exact phrase. In fact, I am sure we all have said it at least once, maybe twice or even an hundred times. I found myself saying it earlier today and I get frustrated when I find myself saying it, because I do not want to use that phrase as an excuse for not doing something. It can become so easy to write the things off with that simple phrase. We only have a short time in this world to spend with our loved ones, seeing the world and meeting new people and there is ALWAYS time for those important things that make our lives so much better.

So in the interests of the old saying, '...Take time to smell the flowers' - I will share with you my past seven days of making time to do...

It was Sunday, April 6th - Mylie and I woke up early and packed up for the day to take a road trip. Our first stop was at Trader Joe's. I will not go into details about Trader Joe's because if you have been reading Psychosomatic Rants you already know how I feel about this place.

Our second stop was at the Williamsburg Winery - This was my first time ever to visit a winery. I am not a huge wine fan, well; I really dislike the taste of wine. I went in hopes to see if the wine I had that was not good or if I really do not like wine. We arrived at the winery, it was cold, cloudy and rainy - a perfect day.

From the Williamsburg Winery website;

The tour includes a video presentation on grape growing (viticulture) and winemaking (oenology), a stroll through the barrel cellar and a visit to the production area.
In our museum you will enjoy a collection of unique and rare vintage wine bottles with a grand finale tasting of seven of our wines in an etched wine glass that is yours to take home as a keepsake

Before I go on, it must be noted that you can NOT put Mylie and me in a room with a video presentation. We both find these videos beyond hilarious. To add the odd and very funny videos that tours create is the fact that not everyone who is on the tour with us finds the humor in these videos so out of respect we try to keep our comments and laughter to ourselves. That is very hard for Mylie because she tried to hold in her laughter - her face turning bright red - tears falling from her eyes - her body begins to bounce do to the force of her holding in her laughter. Then as I try not to laugh at her laughing, a clip of the 'wine master' comes on the screen. This person's face was flushed - with rosy cheeks and he begins talking about the art of wine making. It is clear that this wine master is totally drunk in this video. So my laughter kicks in and so here we are Mylie and me in a room of people who think drinking wine is a upper society and very proper both of us trying to hold in our laughter with Mylie making squeaky sounds in-between her laughter that, I think is her saying, "Stop, I cant take it anymore, stop!'

The twelve-minute video is now over, the tour guide enters into the room, and that ends our video presentation of the tour. Now on to the wine making....

At the end of the tour, we had the privilege of tasting seven different wines. It is important to note here - Mylie and I left our house around early morning and at 2:30pm, we started the tour - we had not eaten anything all day. No breakfast, no lunch, we had a couple handful of popcorn and Mylie had some coffee.

So on with the story - The tour guide poured us the first glass of wine while giving us the history of that wine. Then came the second glass, then the third, and then I noticed that Mylie was starting to get a buzz going - I looked at her and she had this HUGE smile on her face and as she looked at me she said, "This is good!" with a little giggle in her voice. I started to laugh and said, 'You are drunk' She said, 'No, I am not - but we can't drive once we are done here.' We reached our seventh glass of wine in a fifteen-minute span and we were feeling pretty good. - I found out that I still do not like wine -but the desert wine is pretty good.

Then we went on to Richmond, VA to eat at Panda Veg - All I need to say here is ALL YOU CAN EAT VEGAN BUFFET!

Fast forward a couple days later....

I found myself hanging out at horse sanctuaries - way out in the middle of nowhere. (I am sure it is somewhere for the people who live there)

I spent the rest of the week grooming horses and learning about their individual stories. Some were rescued from horse tracks, from PMU farms, carriage horses, and from slaughter.

Spending time at these horse sanctuaries was amazing. I learned so much about these wonderful animals and how horrible the horse 'industry' can be - for example, the horse drawn carriages in NYC are sold to slaughter instead of being retired after a life of hard and miserable lives pulling people through the crowded streets of NYC.

Now it is 11:25pm on Saturday April 12, 2008 and I am standing looking out my window at the city below and asking myself - "What will I make time for, tomorrow?"

VICTORY!!! yet, again

Charlotte, N.C.--Following discussions with PETA about Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus' long history of animal abuse, including citations and fines by federal authorities, Charlotte-based grocery chain Harris Teeter has confirmed that it will not enter into future partnerships with the circus. Fred Morganthall, president of Harris Teeter--which is owned by Ruddick Corporation and operates 200 supermarkets in seven states--told PETA via e-mail this week that while the company must honor its current contractual promotion, "[g]oing forward, we will not be supporting circus promotions. ... I know we already have turned one sponsorship down." As a token of appreciation for looking out for the best interests of real elephants, PETA sent Morganthall a vegan chocolate elephant.

Ringling's animal care record is riddled with animal deaths and U.S. Department of Agriculture noncompliance notices, investigations, warnings, and penalties, including a $20,000 fine for the death of a baby elephant who died after Ringling forced him to enter the ring repeatedly while he was sick and a formal warning for inflicting painful injuries on two baby elephants. Former Ringling employees have reported shocking abuses, including that a chained elephant bled profusely following a violent 30-minute beating with steel-tipped bullhooks, terrified elephants who urinated and defecated in fear at the sound of their trainers' voices, a lion who died in the desert heat in a boxcar, a horse who died without receiving veterinary care, and horses who were tethered and beaten.

Harris Teeter joins Denny's, General Mills, Burger King, Liz Claiborne, MasterCard, Ford Motor Company, and Sears, Roebuck and Co., all of which ended their sponsorships of either Ringling or UniverSoul circuses.

"We salute Harris Teeter for distancing itself from the whips, chains, and loneliness that define circuses like Ringling," says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "A trail of dead baby elephants is something that any business concerned about its public image can do without."

I got sick of waiting for the perfect time, the perfect moment. I was beginning to regret ever getting caught up in tradition and wanting to be asked and regret is certainly not a part of the love that we share. We are perfect and it is always the perfect moment and time because it is us.

We always said we would have to ask each other so we would know that it was real...so the day after I sent the text, I received this on my sidekick:

Because I love the boy who wrote this and because I love snow, of course I said yes! (even though the lack of a question mark makes this technically not a question...I will just chalk that up to excitement and getting caught in the moment...hehe).

All the love in the world to you bebee.

forever.

Love and Chaos took over the world - My world

I have a special announcement to make to all the readers of Zombie-Popcorn/Psychosomatic Rants. As you know Psychosomatic Rants is the text side of Jason Bayless and Mylie T... and not too long ago Mylie T wrote about marriage here in a post entitled, 'Chaos and Love Are Taking Over the World'

In this post Mylie T. starts off by saying, "Marriage is just a piece of paper." These are the words I found myself muttering as I was faced with questions surrounding my long term relationship when I was all of 20. I had been in a serious relationship for a couple of years, and to my surprise I did not want to get married and couldn't ever see it happening.'

She may have never seen it happening, until Friday, March 7, 2008 when she sent me a text message that read.....oh wait, let me give you some background first. For the past two months Mylie T and I have been talking about going to Scotland as soon as I am finished with the 'Ringling Beats Elephants Tour' in November. We have been making plans to visit Edinburgh, Scotland. With its great history and folklore we are bound to have a wonderful Winter Solstice.

Any way, back to the text message she sent me. The message read, "Will you marry me this December in Scotland?" (For those of you who know me - know that I am never home - I am always on the road, traveling. So, a text message is not uncommon for something so serious.) At first, I didn't know if she was asking me to marry her or if she was 'telling' me to ask her to marry her in Scotland.

So, I played it safe and replied, 'Yes' and at that moment Mylie T and Jason Bayless became engaged to be married in Scotland, December 2008.

Youngstown, Ohio VS Ringling Bros.

Tomorrow night is the first Ringling protest here in Youngstown.

There has been so much going on here - It seems that the fine folks of Youngstown are against having Ringling Bros in town. Everywhere we stop people come up to us and say they support what we are doing.

Today, we were invited to be on the Louis Free Radio Show.
If you missed the show no need to worry, I will post a link to the archive show once it is up and I have been invited back tomorrow to be on his show. - I will keep you posted.

Also, if you have not seen yet, a letter was sent to Chester A. Gipson, deputy administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) animal care unit, urging him to immediately remove from the road several elephants traveling with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus because the elephants could pose a grave danger to the public. (To Read the letter)

3D brings people together - even if a million miles away

The prototype Tangible 3D system created by Japanese firm NTT makes it easier to see and touch your beloved girl/boy friend or family member.

That is right, The "tangible 3D" system allows users to be connected and transformed into 3D images in real-time. If you're holding hands with the virtual representation of your spuse and he or she walks off screen, apparently your hand will feel the tug as s/he leaves your pseudo-grasp. The developer, NTT Comware, is reportedly exploring commercialization options including video phones, but there are limitless possibilities out there for this kind of technology.

NTT engineer Shiro Ozawa, who developed the system, envisages various applications. "You would be able to take the hand, or gently pat the head, of your beloved grandchild who lives far away from you," he says.

The system can also translate real-world objects into virtual representations. Two cameras image the items in 3D so that they can be displayed on the screen. A connected computer then processes the 3D image to generate a tactile representation of the object.

This set up means that if the object being filmed is moved, the three-dimensional image also moves in real-time and the user will feel the movement with their hand.

Check out NTT's website for more information about this project

Jaws 3D and self pleasure?

Great News!!

Sensio has just released Jaws 3D - so if you have the Sensio 3D processor (Yes, I do) you need to buy this now!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_HNI7CgQg_xU/R8oUEY0raII/AAAAAAAAAJ8/ruAq7aAShRc/s320/jaws.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172969187603867778" />

Jaws 3D

Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong, Simon MacCorkindale and Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr. star in this Universal Film Classic, the most terrifying Jaws adventure ever.

Everyone at Florida's Sea World is thrilled with the new "Undersea Kingdom", a maze of underwater plexiglass tunnels that permits visitors to get closer to marine life than ever before. The opening ceremonies include many important guests... and one uninvited baby shark who accidentally enters the park's lagoon through a faulty sea gate and subsequently dies. The young shark's 35-foot mother soon follows her offspring, creating the most horrifying tale of terror ever filmed in the water.

Directed by original Jaws designer, Joe Alves, written by Richard Matheson and Carl Gottlieb and filled with heart-pounding special effects, this Jaws will have you screaming for your life!

I am so excited- I already have my copy!

On a completely different subject - I am in my final days here in Cincinnati so I crossed the river into Kentucky to grab a bite to eat before the next Ringling Bros protest. It was 15 till 6:00pm, The sun was out and a very bright day. We were parked at a parking meter next to a paid parking lot. about 5 mins before we pulled out of the parking spot to head to the arena. I noticed a blue truck pulling into the paid parking lot. The driver, who was a guy, opened his door and turned his body to face us. Since he had his door open all I could see of him was from the mid-chest up. He just sat there looking at us - I thought it was a little strange but people stare at the van all the time so I brushed it off. Then when I was pulling out of the parking spot I looked over at the guy in the truck and I got a full length view of this guy - he had his pants and underwear pulled down to his knees and he was, uh... how should I say this nicely.... he was aggressively touching himself. It was insane!

My Bloody Valentine!

I have found a new favorite website - MarketSaw I like it because its to the point, no frills and talks about what I love - 3D movies!!

Today, because of MarketSaw, I just found out that one of my favorite horror movies, from when I was a younger is being re-made in glorious 3D!

My Bloody Valentine, yes the movie that had 9 minutes cut out by the MPAA due to gore. - I really hope Lion's Gate stays true to the gore. If not, I wont be too upset because its 3D!

Sad news is we will have to wait until January 23rd, 2009 for its release.

Valentine's Day 2009 will be extra sweet...

Police Officer Forced to Shoot Rampaging Elephant to Death Cautions Youngstown Police Chief to Keep Circus's Dangerous Animals Out of the City

Youngstown, Ohio - This morning, former Palm Bay, Fla., police officer Blayne Doyle sent an urgent letter, on behalf of PETA, to Youngstown Police Chief Jimmy Hughes urging him to bar the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus from bringing dangerous elephants to Youngstown when the circus visits the city on March 7-9. Doyle's plea stems from a tragic incident in 1992, when, while on duty, he was forced to shoot to death an elephant named Janet after she went on a rampage while giving a "ride" to a mother and five children.

Doyle recently viewed video footage taken by PETA and wrote to Chief Hughes, "I was alarmed at how little control the handlers had over these huge animals and even more surprised that, given the lack of control, they continued to walk them into residential neighborhoods." The video shows several incidents where Ringling elephants became agitated while being walked through residential streets. It also shows elephants who do not respond to handlers' commands or wander off course and are aggressively poked and jabbed with steel-tipped bullhooks that dig into the elephants' tender skin--sometimes causing them to squeal in pain and bleed.

"The years of frustration and beatings that these elephants have endured at the hands of Ringling have turned them into ticking time bombs," says PETA Director Debbie Leahy. "The only way to ensure the safety of the city's residents and avoid another incident like the one in Palm Bay is to prohibit Ringling from bringing these animals to town in the first place."

PETA will protest the circus on opening night. For more information and to view the video footage, please visit PETA's Web site Circuses.com .

Blayne Doyle's letter to Youngstown Police Chief Jimmy Hughes follows.

February 25, 2008

Chief Jimmy F. Hughes
Youngstown Police Department
116 West Boardman St.
Youngstown, OH 44503

Dear Chief Hughes:

My name is Blayne Doyle, and I am a retired Palm Bay, Fla., police officer. In 1992, I was forced to shoot and kill a rampaging elephant named Janet, who had a mother and five children riding on her back when she ran amok. I am writing because I believe that there is compelling evidence that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has not gone far enough to ensure that the public is protected from especially dangerous elephants.

In early January, Ringling took a 5½-year-old male elephant named P.T. off the road after he allegedly attacked and injured a trainer, sending the trainer to the hospital. However, other unpredictable elephants remain on the road. The enclosed DVD shows disturbing footage of Ringling's elephants--several of whom are quite agitated--as they wander several feet away from handlers, walk onto residential lawns, stop and turn around in the middle of the street, nearly walk into a parked car, and generally ignore handlers' commands. Such unresponsiveness all too often results in the elephants being mishandled--including being struck with steel-tipped bullhooks. According to former Ringling employees, it is widely known internally that two elephants, Luna and Tonka, pose a particular danger. I urge you to notify the circus that these elephants cannot be brought to Youngstown.

When I reviewed this footage, I almost had to shut off the video. The cries from the elephants were the same as Janet's as she ran from the gunfire in Palm Bay. I was alarmed at how little control the handlers had over these huge animals and even more surprised that, given the lack of control, they continued to walk them into residential neighborhoods. If Ringling's handlers lose control of one of the elephants, they would more than likely lose control over most of them. The elephants would be loose, scared, and almost unstoppable, running through yards with people everywhere. Please keep in mind that I ran out of ammunition trying to contain just one rampaging elephant. I fear that not even all the ammunition carried by all the police officers working on a given day would be able to stop several rampaging elephants.

Thank you for your consideration. Removing elephants who pose a danger to the public would go a long way toward protecting your community.

Sincerely,
Blayne Doyle

Make Brunch Not War

What better way to show your friends that you love them than by cooking up a fat morning vegan brunch! A vegan brunch is also a great way to let animals you love them--by not eating them.

One of my fav things to do is have late night tea parties, over the top veg sushi lunches and super cozy Sunday brunches. If a brunch is in your near future, try these yummy sausages along with some hashbrowns, tofu scramble, and mountains of yummy coffee, teas, Dr. Pepper, or whatever. xoxo

Vegan Lima Bean Sausages

Ingredients

1 cup cooked baby lima beans
1 ½ cup hot vegetable broth
¾ tsp ground dried sage
½ tsp dried thyme leaves
1 ½ cup vegan bread crumbs
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper

Vegetable oil for frying
Cornmeal
Extra salt, pepper, and sage to taste

Directions

Using a food processor or blender, blend lima beans to a coarse puree. Mix in vegetable broth and slowly mix in bread crumbs. When mixture has become a thick paste, add in the sage, thyme, pepper and salt. Set mixture aside.

On a large plate, spread out approximately ½ cup of cornmeal and dust with pepper, salt and ground sage. Set aside.

Using wet hands, begin making link shaped logs of the lima bean puree. One at a time, lightly roll on the plate of cornmeal to form a light breading. Set breaded sausages on a clean plate. Repeat until all of the puree has been formed into links. This will make approximately 10 links.

In a heavy skillet, add enough vegetable oil to generously coat the bottom. Using medium high heat, fry the links in batches of about 5 at a time. Watch them and turn them frequently until crispy brown on all sides, this will take about 4-5 min. Monitor constantly to make sure they do not burn. Once browned, remove from skillet and drain on a paper towel.

Let stand 5 min before serving. Enjoy!

Hannah Montana Versus U2

Hannah Montana and U2 released 3D concerts this year. They both came out on the Real D, U2 3D was also released in IMAX3D.

(The Real D 3-D system was invented by Lenny Lipton, an American inventor. It is based on the push-pull electro-optical modulator called the ZScreen.
The technique that Real D uses is comparable to the traditional method of 3-D imaging which uses linearly polarized glasses. The traditional method works by projecting two differently linearly polarized images onto the same screen, polarized at +45° and -45° from the horizontal, which are then filtered by linearly polarized glasses worn by the audience.)

I have to say that the Hannah Montana 3D was way better than the U2 3D. Don't get me wrong U2 was a great film/concert but I was a little let down with the 3D effects with U2.

Several times during U23D, Bono seemed very flat, like he was a cardboard cut out in a 3D environment. This could happen due to several different reasons. It could be that the projectors were not adjusted properly, or that during filming or conversion were not done properly. (I wont bore you with the tech side of these reason.) The 3D effects were more depth than 'in your face' - I totally prefer the 'in your face' type 3D.

Hannah Montana 3D was not perfect but it seemed to have everything that makes 3D movies work- just no excitement or action. The film itself, unless you are a Hannah Montana fan, was way boring. As you know, I will go see any 3D movie no matter how bad it might be.

The best part of both of these concerts/films was the previews of upcoming 3D movies, and yes the trailers were in 3D.

One of the films, Coraline from the director of 'Nightmare Before Christmas' - It looks awesome - check it out...

Here is the trailer -

Ringling Bros.: Unsafe Handling of Elephants

First, the video…

Now the details…

On the morning of January 31, PETA sent an urgent letter to Chester A. Gipson, deputy administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) animal care unit, urging him to immediately remove from the road several elephants traveling with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus because the elephants could pose a grave danger to the public. PETA’s request comes after a panel of experts reviewed video footage of Ringling’s red unit animal walks. The experts were alarmed when they saw Ringling handlers frequently lose control of the 4-ton elephants. In video clips from five different cities, the elephants are seen straying from handlers, walking onto residents’ lawns, and failing to respond to commands. The elephants also become agitated (which can cause them to run amok) when they are aggressively mishandled—including being struck with steel-tipped bullhooks to the point of crying out.

PETA sought the opinions of elephant experts as well as Blayne Doyle, a now-retired Palm Bay, Fla., police officer. In 1992, Doyle was forced to shoot and kill an elephant named Janet, who rampaged while a mother and five children were riding on the animal’s back. “I almost had to shut off the video,” said Doyle. “The cries from the elephants were the same as Janet’s as she ran from the gunfire in Palm Bay. I was alarmed at how little control the handlers had over these huge animals—walking them into residential neighborhoods is insane.”

Les Schobert—who has more than 30 years of experience in Asian elephant care and management, including handling and training—states, “The trainers do not appear to have adequate control over the elephants. … Collectively, there’s roughly 80,000 pounds of potentially dangerous animals being walked in a public area in an unsafe manner. It’s reckless and unnecessary to put the public’s safety in jeopardy purely for our amusement.”

“Ringling’s abusive treatment of elephants has made them ticking time bombs—as was evidenced by a reported Ringling elephant attack on a trainer this month,” says PETA Director Debbie Leahy. “We’re asking the USDA to remove these animals from travel before another bloody scene like the one in Palm Bay is repeated.”

Year of the 3D

As you may already know and maybe sick of hearing about - I am obsessed by 3D movies.

There are so many 3D movies coming out this year. U2 3D - Yes, the band U2 has an IMAX 3D film that just hit the theaters. Along with U2 - Hannah Montana's 3D movie is coming out soon.

Not all films are of bands, Fly Me to the Moon - is about three young houseflies stow away aboard the Apollo 11 flight to the moon.

As much as I like going to the theater to see 3D movies - nothing beats having a theater at your home. - especially if it is a 3D theater And today my 3D theater just got a little better because I have upgraded my system with the Sensio processor. Sensio is recognized as the worldwide 3D home video standard in the industry and they create the 4D theatre designed for amusement parks, attractions, museums. You know like the Shrek 4D ride at Universal Studios.

As awesome as the Sensio processor nothing is more exciting than the re-releases of some of the great 3D movies of the past. Before I go on about the re-release - I have to say nothing makes me more upset* than when a 3D movie comes out in theaters and makes its way to DVD - it is released in 2D What is the point to having an 3D movie if it comes out on DVD in 2D - how lame is that?!
(*other things make me more upset, like Ringling beating elephants for example.)

Anyway, I was happy to hear when Sensio announced that they are going to re-release several movies in 3D - yes, movies that were made in 3D are now going to be on DVD in 3D.

Movies like;

Cruel Camera

I just found this documentary on CBC News website and its is really good. I was shocked at some of the things they uncovered in this investigative report - everyone should check it out.

Here is a blurb from their website

Twenty-five years ago, Bob Mckeown and a fifth estate crew stunned the country with an investigative report that showed that many of the wildlife documentaries we'd grown up watching on television (remember the famous footage of the lemmings going off the cliff or some of the memorable moments from shows like Wild Kingdom?) were staged for the television cameras. As well, they revealed that animals often died during the making of movies; all for the sake of the entertainment value.

Now, Bob McKeown and an investigative team have returned to the subject to find out what has changed since the fifth estate's first Cruel Camera documentary. What they found may astonish you.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Another Victory Against Ringling Bros.

PETA has received word from East Meadow-based oil company Lukoil Americas, a subsidiary of Russian oil-giant LUKOIL, that the company will no longer promote Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and will not form any future partnerships with the circus.

The move came just roughly one hour after PETA posted an action alert on its popular Web site asking visitors to e-mail Lukoil and urge it to break all ties with Ringling because of the circus's history of animal abuse. Lukoil advised PETA in an e-mail, "Per our conversation today, we do not have a sponsorship/partnership with Ringling Bros. and are not going to in the future." Lukoil--which operates more than 2,100 gas stations in 13 Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states--had hosted promotional events featuring Ringling clowns at some of its locations.

I know I said it once and I am going to say it again - YOU GUYS ROCK! - This victory came in one hour - Yes, one hour!

This is another awesome victory for the elephants and other animals that Ringling keeps chain, in cages and beats.

Lukoil joins General Mills, Burger King, Denny's, Liz Claiborne, MasterCard, Ford Motor Company, and Sears, Roebuck & Co.--all of which ended their sponsorships of either Ringling or UniverSoul circuses.

Now lets Tell Dodge to End Its Ringling Promotions

Beaten Elephant fights back

PETA just got heads up from a whistleblower that elephant trainer Joe Frisco Jr. was attacked by an elephant belonging to Ringling. The attack allegedly took place while Ringling was performing in Miami on or around January 7. The whistleblower reported that Frisco's injuries were severe enough to send him to the hospital and that he may have spent three to four days recovering. The source claims that Frisco "has been pounding" on the elephant, who is believed to be a 5½-year-old male named P.T

As you know, Joe Frisco Jr. is the brother of Tim Frisco, also an elephant trainer, who was caught on tape viciously beating elephants with steel-tipped bullhooks for the Carson & Barnes Circus. The Friscos learned their trade from their father, who was also a Ringling trainer.

Of course, Ringling is denying the attack by issuing a statement on Wednesday stating that Frisco "received minor injuries after falling while walking with a juvenile elephant in the elephant barn in Miami."
