Have you heard of Amazon Studios yet?  You know, Amazon – the place where you buy things online.  Well, they have started a Studio – as in a movie studio, but it is a little different than what you are thinking – well, according to them it is. [singlepic id=1433 w=320 h=240 float=right]

Amazon Studios is a production company that asks users to submit their feature-length films and screenplays to the site for other users to review and vote on.

According to Amazon Studios;

Movies have been developed pretty much the same way since talkies were considered cutting-edge. But here at Amazon Studios, we believe 21st-century technology creates opportunities to make and share movies and scripts more easily than ever. We invite you to:

  • Win money. Amazon Studios will award a combined $2.7 million in our first year’s worth of monthly and annual contests for the best scripts and movies. There is no charge to participate.
  • Get noticed. Your work will be shared with a global community of filmmakers and fans, who can offer revisions and advice. Screenwriters can see their words come to life as full-length test movies made by directors vying for our $100,000 monthly awards.
  • Get your movie made. The goal of Amazon Studios is to work with Hollywood to turn the best projects into major feature films

Amazon also has a first-look deal with Warner Bros,meaning they will set you work infront of Warner Bros. and give them an option to green-light your project. Don’t get your hopes up yet, because Warner Bros. reserves the right to pass on your project.  If this happens, Amazon will then shop the projects around elsewhere.

Don’t plan on making millions from this deal because upon the release of a finished movie, the filmmaker or screenwriter who originated the project will receive a rights payment of $200,000. If the film gross more than $60 million domestically, you will recieve a $400,000 bonus. – but you will have your first film out on the market opening doors for your next film and making a name for you in Hollywood.

The best thing about Amazon Studios is that you can get your ideas in front of other people (by using their website) to gather feedback to fine tune your project.

I am very interested to see what will grow from this and very interested to see any horror project blooming.
