Zombie Popcorn is super excited that we are attending the Inferno Metal Festival Norway’s Black Easter celebration!
What is the Inferno Festival?
Inferno is an annual black metal festival and this year is its 15th anniversary. Inferno happens every Easter in Oslo, Norway and when you think of black metal, you typically think of the Norwegian style, which is the second wave of this genre. The first wave was reference to as thrash metal or speed metal, which had some punk cross-over. When I was in my younger years, I was obsessed with first wave black metal – Morbid Angel, Death, Obituary, and Cannibal Corpse was in heavy rotation in my cassette tape mixes.
Second wave black metal began, in the 90’s and was spearheaded by the Norwegian black metal scene which included bands like, Enslaved, Gorgoroth, Immortal, and many others. Growing up with the first wave, it excites me that, after several years, that I will be able to embrace the second wave in its homeland.
Inferno is four days of complete black metal awesomeness, the festival’s hotel plays metal on the radio 24/7, has Inferno TV-channels, and offers ‘black-metal breakfasts! So to pay tribute to this festival, I will be posting information, once a week (maybe more), about the bands who are playing at this years, Inferno Festival.
Now to kick it off, we will call upon the dark lord and summon ‘Behemoth‘ Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.
